Phase I of Loop expansion finalized for public to see
Amarillo TX - In order to better educate the public on the new loop expansion, TxDOT set up two meetings where the public can learn about Phase I and Phase II of the project.

The public received the opportunity Tuesday night to hear about the proposal of phase two of the Loop, taking it farther West to Helium road, past I-40, and back at 9th Avenue.

Thursday evening will be another meeting, this time about Phase I where the public will get a chance to take a look at the final proposal of a multi-level intersection at I-27 and Hollywood Road.

Phase I will start just West of Bell street, involving frontage roads, main lanes and the multi-level intersection.

"Then it will continue further west and this is where the new alignment comes in. Right where that curve is now, we're going to take that out and that alignment is going to go right through and tie right in to where FM 2590 near Soncy Road," said TxDOT spokesperson, Paul Braun.

The goal is to enhance mobility and provide a safer environment for roadway users.

Phase I is expected to go out for bid for construction in September of next year, and the construction is anticipated to start in early 2017--Something the business owner of Coyote Corner, just across the street of where the construction will start, isn't looking forward to.

"As it get's congested and re-routing takes place, then it's going to re-route traffic away from our store," said Coyote Corner owner, Ron Connally.

Since no one likes dealing with any traffic delay, Connally isn't sure anyone will even come to his store.

"I wish I had the right idea to keep attracting customers to make it worth their time to fight the traffic and fight the congestion to still trade with us," said Connally.

Once construction wraps up, it might increase more business for Coyote Corner.

"The access road will really serve our business well, it's just a matter of getting to that point. If we can survive till that point," said Connally.

TxDOT says the end result will be worth it.

"Very convenient for commercial traffic and very convenient for local traffic as well," said Braun.

TxDOT says it is important for the public to come to the Phase I hearing, because it is their last chance to ask questions and learn more about the project before it is sent off for approval.

The meeting will be Thursday evening at the Student Building at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church starting at 6 p.m.
