Sunnyvale, California (PRWEB) August 28, 2014

Roz Chast, New Yorker cartoonist and brilliant interpreter of everyday life through humor and wit, will be the featured speaker at the 24th Annual One from the Heart Awards Breakfast which is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2014, 7:30-9:30 a.m., at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto, California.

Chast will speak about her career as a cartoonist and her recently published graphic memoir, Cant We Talk about Something More Pleasant. With cartoons and family photos, Chast creates a touching portrait of her relationship with her aging parents, their final years and how she, as an only child, learned to be their caregiver.

I wrote this book to help others in the same situation as they cope with aging parents; as their lives shift from independence to dependence, Chast told Pathways in a telephone interview.

Since being published in May 2014, Cant We Talk about Something More Pleasant, has been on the New York Times Best Sellers List for 12 weeks now with 2 weeks in the #1 spot. It is currently #2 on the San Francisco Chronicles list. Since the books publication, Roz Chast has been on All Things Considered, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and Forum with Michael Krasny.

Roz Chast grew up in Brooklyn and received a BFA in 1977 from Rhode Island School of Design. In 1978, she became one of the youngest staff cartoonists at The New Yorker, which has continually published her work for 34 years. She has provided cartoons for some 50 magazines and has written or illustrated more than a dozen books. She has been awarded several honorary degrees, and in 2012, she received the New York City Literary Honor in Humor from Mayor Bloomberg. Chast lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut with her family and several parrots.

In addition to the featured speaker, a highlight of the Pathways benefit breakfast is the presentation of the One from the Heart Award to an individual who has made a significant contribution to hospice care in our community. Each year, this event attracts more than 600 corporate and community leaders, medical professionals, and friends of Pathways who support hospice and end-of-life care.
