Happy Elementary adds a Pre-K Program

Amarillo, TX - Four year olds will now get to go to school in one area district.

The state of Texas has raised learning expectations from kindergartners. So, Happy Elementary school has now added a Pre-K program to better prepare their students. "Every opportunity I've ever had to come back to the little children I have taken that opportunity so I just feel like that's where I'm suppose to be," says Connie Osmanski, Pre-K teacher.

Ms. Osmanski has taught for over 20 years and more than half of that was spent as a kindergarten teacher. Osmanski says she's excited for the new school year and ready to set the foundation for her students. "So we try to do a lot of things in a group and a lot of things of just basically getting to know each other and those type of activities seem to make them more at ease."

It's a full day program that will run from 8am-3:25pm.

Classroom teachings will be focused on active play-based fun and child development. "We expect them when they come out of here to know colors, numbers, letters, they may not be able to read or write but they'll know a lot of basic pre reading type skills and pre math skills," says Principal Toni Waldo.

There is not a closed registration date as long your child is four years old by September 1st, they are eligible for the program.

So far eleven students are registered.

If the student is eligible for free or reduced lunch they can avoid the $10 per day tuition fee.
