A little known facility is trying to reach more people in Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - Life Challenge is a 12 month recovery program geared to help men with addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Daniel Spitler, the director of Life Challenge, says the center has been doing well in getting men back on their feet.

"We have a 100% success rate. We've graduated 9 students over the last two years and they are all productive members in society," said Spitler.

Now that the center is doing so well, Spitler says it's time for an upgrade. "We're trying to replace the roofs on all building, and remodel our dining room," said Spitler.

The facility has not been remodeled in over 16 years. "Really, the center as a whole is in need of renovations," said Spitler.

There have been some private donations from people in the area, but the center says they could use more. "Actually, we're facing a $70,000 deficit for the year," said Spitler.

But despite this, Life Challenge is looking for more opportunities that will help not only men, but women.

"Our future plans are for a women's center, there is such a need here in Amarillo," said Spitler.

Although there are other recovery programs through Faith City Mission and Downtown Women's Center, These kind of addictions need more attention.

Executive director for Downtown Women's Center, Diann Gilmore says even though starting up another women's center can be expensive, it might be worth it. "You're giving people what they need to stay in and out of jail, and in and out of the emergency room," said Gilmore.
