Borger man arrested on stolen car charges

AMARILLO - A Borger man is in Randall County Jail after being arrested for several charges on Wednesday, including Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle.

Joshua Wayne Simmons, 31, was driving a Chevrolet Cruz yesterday with a license plate that indicated the car should have been a two-door Pontiac model. Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit (COPPS) officers observed Simmons driving the car, and pulled him over on a traffic violation. Simmons evaded the traffic stop, and the officer opted not to pursue him due to traffic conditions.

A short time later, another COPPS unit observed Simmons running from the initial area on foot. Simmons hid in a nearby apartment complex until he was found.

The Chevrolet was found running unattended near the 3500 block of Fillmore. The vehicle was later determined to be stolen out of Borger.

Simmons was found to have two outstanding bond surrender warrants, one for Theft of Material and for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Simmons was also booked on two local municipal court warrants.
