Amarillo, TX - A man was shot in the chest Monday in southwest Amarillo. At about 3 p.m. Officers were sent to the 3300 block of Lewis Lane on a verbal argument between a separated husband and wife.

According to residents, the couple is known for fighting in public.

Residence said the wife's new boyfriend and husband got into a fist fight.

As officers were responding to the incident Monday afternoon, a second call of shots fired in the same area was sent to police.

Officers said it is believed the husband was in the process of removing some personal items from a vehicle that he and his wife share.

Police add that the wife, later identified as Andrea Hadaway, 35, came out of the house to confront her husband and a verbal argument took place.

Officials said the husband then decided it was in his best interest to leave the situation, and as he begin to do so, Hadaway partially climbed into the driver's side window of the red Dodge Ram pickup to keep her estranged husband from leaving.

Police said as the man began to drive away, with Hadaway still hanging out the window, his wife bit off a portion of one of his fingers.

At this point, officials said somewhere near 34th and Lewis, Hadaway fell, was pushed or jumped off of the truck.

According to officials, at this time, two other males had ensued a car chase from the original location on Lewis.

The two men had gotten into a white Pontiac Grand Am.

Police said as the chase continued, the Dodge began trying to divert the Pontiac.

It is then the occupants of the Pontiac fired at least 3 shots at the truck near the intersection of 34th and Patterson, according to Officials.

The truck continued to divert the Pontiac, causing the vehicles to circle the surrounding area, police said.

Officials add, one passenger of the Pontiac told the driver to let him out near 35th and Virginia in an apparent attempt to ambush the driver of the truck.

Police said a few minutes later, the driver of the Dodge was southbound on Virginia in the 3400 block.

Police also said the male passenger that was let out earlier stepped in front of the truck and fired another round at the driver at 3414 S. Virginia.

According to officers, the driver of the Dodge struck the suspect with the front of his vehicle and continued southbound, then turned westbound onto 35th and then turned a northern direction where the truck crashed into a home at 3414 S. Virginia.

Police said the suspect was still on the front of the truck when it went through the residence, which was unoccupied.

Officials said the driver did sustain injuries from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper part of his body and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police also said the suspect that was smashed into the home was located inside the house and taken into custody.

He was taken to the hospital as well and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
