Native panhandle comedian Ron White offers laughs for a good cause

Fritch, TX - A famous comedian with Panhandle roots is giving back to his hometown of Fritch to help victims still recovering from the May wildfire that destroyed 225 homes.

Comedian Ron White has an upcoming show in Wichita Falls and he is donating all the proceeds from tickets sales to the Hutchinson County United Way's Fritch Fire Victims Relief Fund.

"Every dime from this benefit show will go straight to the fire victims. We will not receive any benefit from this. Every bit of it will go to the fire victims," explained United Way Assistant Executive Director Lauran Young.

The United Way has raised about $600,000 since the fire happened, but that is nowhere near the amount of money they need to help all those who were affected. "We've been able to help approximately 75 people at this time," said United Way Board President Curtis Brancheau.

"One of the issues is that we've only got so much money. If we had it our way, we'd write a check to every single person who was affected. However, we have a limited amount of money for a lot of people."

That is why Ron White's offer to help was a big deal for the organization. "It's fantastic. As much money as we have raised and given out, there is still an immense need," said Brancheau.

The benefit show is Friday, August 8 at 7:30 and the United Way is hoping for a full house.

"I think Ron White helping us out is the perfect example that no matter where you go and no matter how big you make it, you still have Panhandle roots," said Brancheau. "And for someone like that to come in and step up to the plate is a massive help for us both financially and also for awareness for our community and everyone's attitude."
