Deportations halted at New Mexico processing center

Deportations halted at New Mexico processing center

Artesia, NM - Officials at an immigration processing center in New Mexico announced they will be halting all deportations for the time being.

A New Mexico congressman says the deportation of immigrants from a detention facility in Artesia have been temporarily stopped because of chicken pox.

Representative Steve Pearce said that the immigrant women and children at the federal law enforcement training centers are being treated and vaccinated, but Pearce says two people at the facility had to be put in isolation because of the chicken pox virus.

Pearce says he is worried about the health and safety of the woman and children held at this center as the facility is reaching maximum capacity. Department of Homeland Security officials have not yet commented on this situation.

Pearce also says Eastern New Mexico Regional Medical Center in Roswell will now be used for patient care instead of Artesia General Hospital.
