Police charge suspect with Quick Quack Car Wash burglary

Amarillo, TX - Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Quick Quack Car Wash on East Amarillo Boulevard early Sunday morning.

Responding officers found the suspect broke in by breaking out a glass door. The burglar then pried open an empty safe and pulled a computer out of an office cabinet. The damaged computer was later found inside the business.

The suspect ran away before officers arrived. A few minutes later, an officer spotted a man nearby in the 1100 block of North Garfield. The officer spoke to the man and tried to detain him as a suspect.The suspect twisted away and resisted when the officer tried to put him in handcuffs. He turned to face the officer with his fists up, and the officer tried to take the man into custody again.

The suspect fled heading east on 11th Street. The officer chased him into the 1100 block of North Arthur and stopped the suspect with a Taser.

Police then took the man into custody with no reported injuries. Officers found the man was in possession of drug paraphernalia and evidence linking him to the burglary.

Police booked the suspect, 17-year-old Joseph Lee Roberts, into the Potter County Detention Center for burglary of a building, resisting arrest, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a local warrant for failure to attend school.
