Appeals court upholds gun rule

Posted: Updated:
Albuquerque, N.M. - A federal appeals court upholds the government's right to demand gun dealers in Southwestern border states report if someone buys more than two semi-automatic rifles in a five-day span.

Ron Peterson Firearms of Albuquerque along with two other gun shops filed suit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosions.

The suit challenged a letter from the ATF that demanded the shops to notify authorities if someone buys over two of the rifles within five days.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of appeals sided with other appellate courts in supporting a lower court's decision in favor of the ATF.

The ATF issued the letter as part of a crackdown on weapons trafficking to Mexico.
