Corpus Christi cracks down on water conservation

Corpus Christi, Texas - A South Texas city cracks down on water conservation during the ongoing drought.

Corpus Christi initiated Stage 2 water restrictions Monday. Residents can only use sprinklers and fill swimming pools on a designated day once a week.

Those who violate restrictions will receive a notice and then face fines of up to $500.

The city's Stage 1 restrictions apply when the combined levels of Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir fall under 50 percent capacity.

Stage 2 begins when the storage sites drop below 40 percent.

The Nueces River Authority reports the levels Sunday were at 38 percent
