Officials look to add another immigration shelter in Texas

Clint, TX - As the immigration crisis continues to take over the US, another city in Texas is being considered for housing the unaccompanied children crossing the border.

Authorities are considering a bid to build a shelter in Clint, TX, which is located in west Texas, that would be the largest in the US to hold unaccompanied children who enter the country illegally.

A number of sites in Texas and elsewhere are being considered as detention facilities for many of the more than 57,000 unaccompanied children who have entered the US since October. But with access to 3,500 beds, the proposed Abraham Lincoln transitional lodge, that lies southeast of El Paso would be far larger than other shelters.

One that recently opened in McAllen holds about 1,000 children.

As of now, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is reviewing the proposal for this potential shelter.
