Amarillo, TX - If your child's car seat moves when the car stops or turns, seems too small, or allows your child to get out...local agencies want to help keep your child safe.

Local child safety organizations say 4 out of 5 car seats are used incorrectly, therefore putting your child in danger.

TxDOT, along with Safe Kids Panhandle and Panhandle RAC will host a car seat checkup at the Amarillo Fire Station No. 7 on Wednesday.

These safety organizations say strapping your child in a car seat is 71% effective in preventing fatalities and 67% effective in preventing serious injuries.

The purpose is to educate drivers on choosing the right safety seat for a child, properly putting the car seat in a vehicle, making sure your child is secure in the seat, and knowing when to upgrade to a booster seat.T

he car seat checkup will be from 9 to 11 a.m.
