National Day of the Cowboy celebrated in Amarillo

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - July 26th is recognized as National Day of the Cowboy and is celebrated around the country.

To honor this special day, many people made their way to the American Quarter Horse Museum, where Melissa Lofton told us about the importance between a cowboy and his horse.

"You don't have a cowboy without a horse, and going back to it's versatility, the American Quarter Horse is most times your partner on the ranch. He is the horse cowboys choose to help them do everything they need to get done," she said.

At Saturday's event, there were horseback rides, different cowboy related crafts and a tour of the Hall of Fame. People also had the chance to learn about a cowboy's way of life, western heritage, and working with horses.

The National Day of the Cowboy Campaign was founded back in 2004, to help preserve, protect and promote the cowboy and western heritage.
