Immigration crisis causing more problems in Houston

Houston, TX - The large influx of immigrant children along the Texas border may be just a distraction from another problem driving into Houston.

Officials report that drug cartels are using the "surge" of undocumented children to run more drugs into the Houston area.

With the Border Patrol focused on the influx of children crossing the border and illegal immigration, the Wharton County district attorney says it's causing the drug trafficking along Highway 59 to only get worse.

Officials report that in just three stops over the past month on Highway 59 in Wharton County.

DPS troopers have seized 5 pounds of suspected meth, 57 pounds of marijuana and nearly $400,000 in suspected drug money.

Those that are trying to stop the flow of drugs say it's just a sign of what's to come.

Officials in Wharton County say this is just also another consequence of the border battle that's hitting home.
