GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-up kicks off next week

Amarillo, TX - Next week local restaurants are showing support for Texas-grown products and the High Plains Food Bank during the annual GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up.

The Round-Up is a statewide event where restaurants feature and promote dishes and drinks made in Texas, all while helping food banks across the state.

Starting on Monday, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, Joe Daddy's, Joe Taco, Macaroni Joes and La Fiesta Grande are encouraging residents to eat local to support Texas farmers and ranchers. They will each feature products grown and produced here in the Lone Star State."For this week, we're featuring our calf fries, our rocky mountain oysters. That's a true Texas product that we serve here," said Bobby Lee with The Big Texan.

At La Fiesta Grande, it's all about Texas beef. "All of our beef, whether it's ground beef or our steaks, is all Texas beef. And it's very important that we keep it local," said Ashley Paredes. "At Joe Daddy's we're doing a Texas chicken fried steak. At Joe Taco we're doing our Texas tacos, our brisket and pork mix tacos. And Macaroni Joes is doing a Texas red fish," explained Colby Monroe.

By dining at the restaurants, consumers are also contributing to the High Plains Food Bank. Participating Round-Up restaurants from across the state pledged to donate nearly $40,000 to the Texas Food Bank Network. The event benefits a good cause, but it also gives restaurants a chance to highlight the connection between Texas agriculture and the consumer. "Being from the Texas Panhandle, it's important to us," said Monroe.

"We know where our business comes from. So we're always trying to support the community. But besides that, using Texas products is important to us." "People come from all over the world to Amarillo to experience Texas. And anything that we can provide to them and to promote to them that's from Texas is a huge deal. They're going to eat Texas beef, Texas vegetables, and Texas jalapenos."

About 400 restaurants across the state are participating in next week's GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up.
