Austin, TX - The face of high school basketball playoffs in Texas is about to see some changes for the upcoming season.

It's a topic that's been debated over this last year and now, UIL officials confirm the site for the Texas high school state basketball tournaments is moving out of Austin.

For the first time in 93 years, the girls and boys state basketball tournaments will not be played in Austin. Due to difficulties with availability and affordability of hotels caused by numerous events in Austin happening on the same week like the South by Southwest festival, the tournament will be played in San Antonio at the Alamodome.

In June, UIL staff asked for guidance from the league's legislative council on where to move the basketball state tournament venue. Now, the council officially authorized staff to move the basketball state tournaments to San Antonio in 2015.

The Alamodome is still working with UIL staff to finalize arrangements for the upcoming girls and boys basketball state tournaments.
