After five years of captivity and weeks of scrutiny following his return, 28-year-old Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will return to work.
The Army announced Monday Bergdahl has completed mental counseling and medical care at an Army hospital in San Antonio.
U.S. Army North spokesman Don Manuszewski said Bergdahl will soon begin a desk job at Fort Sam Houston.
The soldier will work with a unit responsible for civil support operations, homeland defense, and security cooperation programs involving countries such as Mexico, the Bahamas, and Canada.
Manuszewski said Bergdahl will be treated no differently than "any other soldier."
At the fort, a "sponsor" will help Bergdahl readjust to Army life.
Manuszewski says this is normal for any new soldier at the post.
Bergdahl was freed from Taliban militants in May in exchange for the U.S. release of five Taliban members.
