Sallisaw, OK - Cries for help lead the U.S. Coast Guard to a man struggling to stay above the water of an eastern Oklahoma lake.Authorities say the 36-year-old man was fishing with a friend near the Applegate Cove of Kerr Lake.

When his boat became disabled, the man jumped in the water and fought to remain afloat.

The Coast Guard says Lt. Clint Smith and Petty Officer 2nd Jose Blanco were touring the Arkansas River area Thursday when they heard him yell.

Smith dived in and rescued the man.

The man was wearing a life jacket and suffered from exhaustion but had no other injuries.

Smith is supervisor of Marine Safety Detachment in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
