New Mexicans express anger over immigrants

Artesia, N.M. - Residents of Southeastern New Mexico argue against an immigrant detention center.

Around 400 people attended a heated town hall meeting in Artesia to debate the detainment of almost 700 Central American women and children at the nearby barracks.

The residents say they fear immigrants may take local jobs and resources from citizens.

Last month, the Obama administration announced plans to use the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia as a temporary holding center for the flood of women and children escaping poverty and gang violence in Central America.
