AMARILLO - A man is under arrest after fleeing medical care and attempting to rob cars in the hospital's parking lot.

On June 28, officers were sent to Northwest Texas Hospital on a call stating that a patient, Russell Scott Saylor, had escaped and had tried to take two cars. After Saylor, 36, failed to take both cars, he fled the scene. Officers received a second call advising that the naked Saylor had entered Panhandle Pediatrics, where he attempted to hide in a false ceiling in the restroom. He then fell through the ceiling and was taken into custody by the officers.

One victim, an adult male, said he and his infant son were sitting in the back of his SUV when Saylor approached them to take the keys. The man refused and directed Saylor toward the hospital. Saylor fled again and confronted three women, demanding the keys to the car. One of the women resisted, and Saylor fled again.

Saylor is in custody at the Potter County Detention Center for two counts of robbery, along with outstanding local felony warrants for unlawful possession of a firearm and evading arrest or detention/with prior conviction.
