Texan faces terrorism charges

Posted: Updated:
Austin, Texas - Federal prosecutors say an Austin man has pleaded guilty to federal charges of seeking to join an al-Quaida splinter group leading Iraqi militants.

Authorities said 23-year-old Michael Wolfe confessed to trying to provide material resources and support to terrorists.

Wolfe had plans to journey to the Middle East to help the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the extremist group of Sunnis jeopardizing Iraq's government.

Police arrested Wolfe earlier this month at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston as he was leaving for Turkey with his wife and two young children.

Wolfe faces a prison sentence up to 15 years. A date for sentencing has not been scheduled.

Another man from Texas faces the same charge in a separate matter but has not yet entered a plea.
