Teen accused with bombing plot considers himself 'mentally ill'

Minneapolis, Minnesota - A teen charged in May with attempted murder, possessing explosives, and attempting to damage property considers himself to be "mentally ill."

17-year-old John LaDue has pleaded not guilty to charges for planning to kill his family and bomb his school.

A woman thwarted LaDue's plan when she noticed him acting suspiciously around a storage locker and called authorities. During a search of the locker and the suspect's room, officers found guns, bomb-making materials, and a 180-page notebook containing a plot for a Columbine-style massacre.

While LaDue's ultimate target was Waseca Junior/Senior High School, he planned to kill his family first.

"I don't even think I've been bullied in my life," LaDue said in a police interview. "I have good parents, I live in a good town, I think I'm just really mentally ill and no one's noticed and I've been trying to hide it...I just wanted as many victims as possible."

The suspect's attorney wants the charges to be dropped because the plan was never carried out.
