UPDATE: Bushland gas line rupture

Bushland, TX - Bushland residents were evacuated from their homes early this morning when a natural gas pipeline ruptured.

Around 5:45, emergency crews  responded to a call of a gas leak at the residence of 1900 block of Laramie Drive, in the Prairie West housing development.
FM 2381 north and southbound were closed down as residents were first evacuated to Bushland High School, then later to the Middle School.
More than one hundred homes were affected in the evacuation.
Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas tells us officials believe lightning may be to blame for the rupture.

7:30 a.m.

The situation is considered under control at this time.

Potter County deputies have allowed all Bushland residents back into their homes.

Sheriff Brian Thomas tells NewsChannel 10 they believe the pipeline was struck by lightning just before 6:00 a.m.

6:45 a.m.

Emergency officials in Bushland are in contact with Atmos Energy to determine when residents can return home.

The gas leak on Laramie Drive has been shut off, however, crews say it will take some time to dissipate.

6:40 a.m.

NewsChannel 10 has learned the gas leak in Bushland has been shut off. Officials are however, waiting for the gas to dissipate so those who have evacuated are asked to stay put. If you have not evacuated, you can do so by heading to the Bushland Middle School.

6:30 a.m.

Bushland residents in the Northwest area of Bushland around Laramie Drive are being asked to evacuate to the Bushland Middle School.

A pipeline gas leak was located.

Emergency crews have relocated the staging area from Bushland HS to Bushland Middle School.

6:20 a.m.

Bushland Road is CLOSED. FM 2381, North and Southbound has been shut down. There is no thru traffic at this time except for evacuees

6:15 a.m.

Emergency crews are on scene and asking all residents in North Bushland around the Laramie area to evacuate due to a pipeline gas leak. The staging area for evacuees at this time is the Bushland High School. At this time it is only a leak...it has not ignited
