Juneteenth celebrated in Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - Celebrations for the state's Juneteenth holiday hit the streets in Amarillo on Saturday.

Hundreds of people spent time at Bones Hook Park enjoying a parade and cookout, as a way to remember the day slavery was abolished in the state of Texas.

The Emancipation Proclamation was signed January 1st, 1863. But, word of it was not received in Texas until a year and a half later on June 19th.
