Perry says he "stepped right in it" with homosexual reference

Washington - Texas Gov. Rick Perry says it was an error on his part to draw comparisons between alcoholism and homosexuality.

When asked if homosexuality is a disorder, Perry told the Commonwealth Club of California if he had the "genetic coding" to be an alcoholic, he still would have the choice not to drink. He said he looks "at the homosexual issue as the same way."

Perry said Thursday at a forum hosted by The Christian Science Monitor that he "stepped right in it." He went on to say that all groups should be treated with tolerance.

He says he should have remained focused on the priority topic of creating jobs.
