Sam's Club agrees to pay $1 million toward city main sewer project

Amarillo, TX - The City of Amarillo is working on a $6 million dollar project. A larger sewer main is planned to run west of South Soncy from Hillside to I-40 which is around 2 to 2-1/2 miles.

It's the next phase from a project that started off Bell and Arden and continued to Coulter and Soncy and now I-40.

Recently SAM's club approved a sewer main agreement with the city to give $1 million dollars toward the cost. SAM's would also take part in using the main sewer with the plans to build behind the home depot in the 4.3 acre tract.

This sewer line will allow new developments to continue on Soncy. The city says they are waiting on property owners to give their permission. "We were hoping to start earlier this year but it's just all depending on when we obtain those easements from the land owners because we can't get on their land until we have the easement which is essentially permission." says Tim Loan, Assistant Director of Utilities for the City of Amarillo.

Once construction starts the city says it will take a 12 to 18 months for everything to be complete. And there are still plans to place a sewer go further west of I-40. The sewer system that already exist is at it's capacity.
