Xcel builds new facility in Carlsbad

Carlsbad, N.M. - Xcel Energy plans to open its new 24,000-square-foot facility in a Carlsbad industrial park next month.

According to the Carlsbad Current-Argus, Xcel will launch the new $4.8 million dollar facility with a ceremony July 8.

Due to growth in the mining and oilfield industry, regional demand for electricity is predicted to increase. Xcel plans for 240 miles of new distribution lines to carry electricity straight to Lea and Eddy counties.

The electricity provider will hire 37 full-time employees in addition to contractors.

Xcel previously occupied a 50-year-old building that was little more than half the size of the new one.
