Amarillo celebrates Flag Day

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -
Amarillo, TX - June 14th makes Flag Day, a national celebration honoring the American Flag.

According to the Library of Congress, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a  proclamation making June 14th the official day to commemorate the adoption of the stars and stripes as the official flag of the United States.

But this year, Flag Day holds another special meaning. It also marks the 200th year that the Star Spangled Banner has been our national anthem.

To celebrate Flag Day, hundreds participate in a flag salute at Medi Park, while also enjoying several booths and live music.

But event organizers say the event was more than just about having a good time.

"Flag Day is a very important day. It's the day we have the opportunity as citizens, to celebrate freedom, salute our flag, and honor our military heroes. We live in the land of the free because we are simply home of the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our country," said Jack Barns, who helped organize the event.

That will cause some problems when people try to exit the new parking garage onto, well, any street surrounding it. The city believes the solution to this problem, along with gett...
