Burn bans begin to lift across the Panhandle

Posted: Updated:
Amarillo, TX - Burn bans throughout the area are beginning to lift in many counties thanks to recent rainfall.

If you take a look at the map on the left, all the counties shaded in red still have a burn ban, and those in blue are now allowing outdoor burning to take place. County judges who lifted the ban said their counties are finally seeing some relief from the drought because of recent rain storms.

However, other counties like Potter aren't so lucky. The Potter County burn ban has been in place for the last two years and it's not going away any time soon. The county said conditions are just too dry to take the risk.

Cimarron, Texas and Beaver counties in Oklahoma have a burn ban Tuesday, but it will expire Wednesday. With chances of more rainfall this week, more counties could follow suit in expiring the ban. Most county commissioners are meeting on Monday and tell us discussing the county's burn ban is on the agenda.
