Road construction will bring one busy Amarillo road down to one lane

Amarillo, TX - For many people who live near 34th Avenue, this street is a main source to get around town.

Dick Barnes lives right off 34th Avenue and he says he uses it every day.

"I use it all the time, at least two to three times a day," said Barnes.

But starting Monday, drivers in this area should expect delays through December.

"It's going to be a change in routine, because I'm a creature of habit," said Barnes.

The project is designed to reconstruct 34th Avenue from Soncy Road- Loop 335 to Coulter Street.

The road surface will be fixed as well as curbs, gutters, and concrete traffic islands.

But some are saying this construction will cause problems for the next several months.

Another resident off 34th Avenue, Ann Ries says this road is extremely busy.

"There are hundreds of cars that go up and down 34th everyday," said Ries.

And many people may need to look for alternate routes.

"I don't know which direction I'm going to go now, because if it's a high traffic time of people going to work up Coulter, then it's going to be difficult," said Ries.

But although this project may seem like a headache, some are saying it's necessary.

"I guess it needs to be done. If they can get rid of the bumps in the road, it will be a lot better to drive on," said Barnes.
