Hundreds bike for cancer awareness in Palo Duro Canyon

Canyon, TX -
Cancer impacts thousands of Texans every year.

In hopes of helping more people live a cancer free life, hundreds of bikers came to Canyon for a common cause.
The group is strapping on their helmets to help raise money for a local cancer center, while spending a consecutive 24 hours in the Palo Duro Canyon.
This is the only simultaneous 24 hour road and mountain bike event in the country.
The event is the primary fundraiser for the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, right here in Amarillo.

"Nobody does what we do, but our venue at Palo Duro Canyon allows us to have mountain bikers and road bike riders on at the same time," said event director Ryan Parnell.

"A lot of folks are doing 24 hours non-stop both on the mountain bike and road bikes and then we have a lot that just ride for a bit and take a rest and go back at it. But we're here to support them the full 24 hours and raise a lot of money and awareness," he added.

Part of the proceeds will go to a  relatively new program at the cancer center. The Survivorship Program gives recovering cancer patients added support to help them transition back to normal life after treatment has ended.
