Man dies from self inflicted gunshot wound after fleeing from police

Amarillo Police say a suspect who fled from officers was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday.

Officers say they arrived at Toot 'n Totum on E. Amarillo Blvd. and Columbine St. just after 4 a.m. on a trespassing call.

When police arrived, they say the suspect left the scene and drove the wrong way, on a one way street. His vehicle then crashed into a dumpster, before hitting a tree and then a fence.

When police caught up with him, they say the suspect was dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident is still being investigated. An autopsy has been ordered.
