Multi-agency resource center sets up shop in Fritch

CORRECTION: The location for the VOAD resource center in Fritch is 308 S. Ridgeland, next to the First Assembly of God.

Fritch, TX - Disaster relief organizations now have a better idea about what the needs are in the Fritch area, and the newly established VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is making sure all organizations are working together to provide the needed resources.

About two dozen organizations make up VOAD and they all offer different disaster relief efforts. The Fritch wildfire is VOAD's first area disaster since the collaborative organization started in February. Their goal is to streamline relief efforts in an efficient way.

"We don't want to create a disaster within a disaster," explained VOAD Executive Director Zack Wilson.

To make sure that doesn't happen, VOAD is opening up a multi-agency resource center in Fritch Thursday afternoon. The center will provide a variety of resources all in one location. "Everything from food and water and snacks, all the way to supplies for pets or spiritual care, counseling, different types of resources for clean up there at Fritch," said Wilson.

Wilson said VOAD does not need product donations at this time, but they do need monetary donations, which can be made through a fund set up by the Amarillo Area Foundation. "That's what the needs are on the ground in Fritch, and that's how we're asking everyone to help if you want to help. That is the best way to do it."

He also said VOAD is a needed resource for organizing disaster relief efforts in our area. "I definitely believe it is very needed. And the whole idea is to streamline efforts and to get the right resources to the right people at the right time."

The VOAD resource center is located at 308 S. Ridgeland, next to the First Assembly of God in Fritch.
