Bird to blame for afternoon power outage

Power has been restored in southwest Amarillo.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Xcel Energy says around 2,800 customers were affected.

Wes Reeves with Xcel says a bird landed on a transformer at an Xcel substation, causing the outage.

Power was rerouted and restored within an hour.

The outage also impacted traffic lights at SW 34th Ave and Soncy Rd., along with S. Coulter St. and Interstate 40.
