Randall County receives mobile command unit

Amarillo, TX - Randall County is in the process of putting their new mobile command unit into service.

The Randall County Sheriff's office says the unit will be ideal for large grass fires or hostage situations.

The mobile unit has 42-foot camera mast in the back, allowing them a clear view of all their surroundings.

It also comes equipped with a dispatch system.

LT. Matt Stockstill with the sheriff's department says the mobile unit can be used for a variety of situation.

"Any type of hostage situation, a barricaded subject, large grass fires, a catastrophic event where we would need to mobilize a large number of people and have a central command unit that is close by to use."

Stockstill says it is a big asset for the entire county and community as well.

This will allow responders to get to the scene faster and more efficiently.
