Oklahoma inmate dies after botched execution

Posted: Updated:
McAlester, OK - A convicted murderer who suffered a painful death after a botched execution is stirring up controversy across the nation.

This incident has all eyes on Oklahoma and is towing the line of an inhumane death as an investigation is now underway. The death of Clayton Lockett led Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin to call for an independent investigation into exactly what went wrong.

Fallin said the legal system worked, the death penalty was appropriate, but more investigation needs to be done into the execution. Lockett was supposed to die of lethal injection Tuesday night for the shooting death of a 19 year old woman back in 1999, but 40 minutes after the three drug cocktail was injected into his arm he died of a heart attack.

This was also supposed to be a double execution because of Lockett's mishap, Charles Warner's execution is stalled as his case has been an on-going ordeal.

Lawsuits were filed back in March because the two inmates wanted to know which drugs would be killing them. The family of Lockett is opening up now.

This is also the second botched execution in three and a half months. The last one was in Ohio. Executions are being halted in Oklahoma as this investigation continues, leaving many are outraged.
