Botched Execution Raises Questions

Botched Execution Raises Questions

McAlester, OK - A death row inmate died of a massive heart attack Tuesday after his execution was stopped in-progress because of a faulty lethal injection dosage.

The execution of Clayton Lockett stalled after officials originally said the chemicals never properly made it into his blood stream. Reports say the execution started at 6:23 pm and at various times he could be seen moving and uttering words. Officials stopped the execution saying the chemicals never properly made it into his blood stream.

Lockett died of a massive heart attack in the execution chamber a little before 8 pm.

Lockett's attorney said quote "this is a botched execution, we may file a lawsuit."
Last week the Oklahoma supreme court ruled that Clayton Lockett and Charles Warner were not entitled to know the source of the drugs that would be used to kill them.

Lockett was found guilty of the 1999 shooting death of 19-year-old while Warner was convicted for the 1997 death of his roommate's 11-month-old daughter. Both executions were originally scheduled for March, but were moved because the state didn't have the necessary drugs.
A department of corrections spokesman says the combination of lethal injection drugs used Tuesday has not been used by the prison before.
