Perryton, TX - The Texas Rangers are investigating an in-custody death at the Ochiltree County Jail.
Ochiltree County Sheriff Terry Bouchard said the Texas Rangers are investigating the suicide of 35-year-old Amber Nicole May.
The Perryton Police Department arrested May on Monday and charged her with public intoxication, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
Sheriff Bouchard said about two hours after being booked into jail, officers discovered May had hanged herself. He said it happened within 23 minutes of May's last cell check.
Because it was an in-custody death, the sheriff contacted the Texas Rangers for an independent investigation. They are also working with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards to investigate.
