League of Women Voters hosts free agriculture program

Amarillo, TX - The League of Women Voters is once again trying to inform the community about important issues.

Tuesday afternoon, the league hosted a program focusing on the impact of agriculture policies on our community called "Agriculture Issues and Policies: They Affect All of Us." The meeting allowed those in attendance to speak with local agriculture experts about some of the big issues and ask any questions they may have. The goal of the meeting was to help residents so they can make informed decisions when voting on agriculture policies.

"Agriculture really is the life blood of our economy," said KGNC Radio Agribusiness Director James Hunt. "It's billions of dollars worth of economic activity, it's thousands of jobs and an awful lot of products are grown here. Agriculture is very key to us and so what is decided about agriculture when you're talking about it at a policy level or in the minds of consumers is very important."

Some of the main topics discussed during the program included animal management, food safety, food labeling and genetically modified organisms.
