TxDOT kicks off "Work Zone Safety" week
Work zones along the road are often one of the most dangerous spots for drivers and workers.

Every year, hundreds of Texans die or are injured as a result work zone wrecks.

Sunday, the Texas Department of Transportation spoke out about this growing concern as part of  national work zone safety awareness week which runs through April 11th.

"Anytime you see our work zones and our workers there, we want you to pay special attention to them and give them space and your courtesy as you go through," said Ron Johnston with the Texas Department of Transportation.

The top two causes of work zone crashes are speeding and distracted driving.
In 2013, TxDOT says there were over 17,000 work zone crashes and 115 fatalities.
