UPDATE: One person killed in high-speed crash into building

UPDATE: Police have identified the deceased driver in Wednesday morning's fatal crash as 31 year-old Milton Joseph Cruz.

They say speed was definitely a factor in the crash, and are currently working to determine whether alcohol or drugs were also a factor.

An autopsy has been ordered on the deceased victim.

Amarillo, TX - Police are saying that speed is a factor in a Wednesday morning crash that left one person dead.

Witnesses tell police they saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed on the one-way street of North Buchanan.

After reportedly running the red light at Northeast Third Avenue, the car swerved into an empty storage building near Northeast Fifth.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate this crash, and have not yet released any victims' names, pending notification of next-of-kin.
