Miss Amarillo Latina pageant celebrates positive role models

The annual Miss Amarillo Latina beauty pageant was held Sunday afternoon.

16 young ladies competed for the title at the Amarillo Globe News Center for the Performing Arts.

There are two categories, one for teens aged 13 to 18 and another for adults, 19 to 26. The lady's had a chance to walk the stage and celebrate their dreams.

Event organizer Vanessa Estrada says the pageant is a great way to recognize role models in the community. "It has impacted a lot in our teens helping prevent a lot of teen pregnancy's, that's our goal. And keeping them out of negative activities and bullying and building there self esteem," she said.

The group was judged by a panel of local women, and the winner will go on and represent Amarillo in the Miss Texas Latina pageant.
