AFD and Battery Joe teaming up to help protect Amarillo residents

Amarillo, TX -

To help make sure everyone who needs a smoke or carbon monoxide detector, can have one, Battery Joe and the Amarillo Fire Department have teamed up to pass them out.

On Saturday, area residents had the chance to sign up for a free carbon monoxide detector that the fire department will install at a later date.

The AFD also passed out smoke alarms, but only for the elderly living in Amarillo. "Having a working smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector is your first line of defense when it comes to saving a life, as far as detecting smoke or the gas that is produced," said Fire Fighter Eric Clark.

There mission is to make sure all homes have a properly working alarm in case of an emergency. At Saturday's event, there was also a smoke simulator to show kids what it would be like and how to properly respond in case of a fire.
