SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico records show that lobbyists and their clients spent at least $200,000 during this year's legislative session -- hosting dinners, receptions and handing out passes for free golf and skiing.
The biggest expenditure was by the New Mexico Golf Tourism Alliance, which provided passes to legislators and others for free golf at five courses in the state. The passes were valued at $28,500.
Ski New Mexico, the ski industry's trade association, handed out passes worth $27,750 to lawmakers for two free days of skiing at ski areas in New Mexico.
A lobbyist for the New Mexico Mining Association reported spending $15,751 on a dinner and reception for lawmakers.
