Six arrested for phone scam

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Six people have been arrested for a phone scam that was targeting the elderly in our area.

The scammers impersonated the grandson of a 92-year-old Amarillo resident who claimed he had been arrested and needed money sent to an address in Ontario, California.

Amarillo police worked with law enforcement in Ontario to catch the scammers by sending a fake package to the address they requested.

At least four elderly victims from both Texas and Nebraska sent about 225,000 dollars to the scammers.

Some of that money was recovered and returned to the victims.

Arrested:

James Colangela

Desiree Delgado

Juan Lopez

Walter Ayala
