Amarillo, TX - Amarillo police are currently engaged in a standoff this morning.

Around 11:00 last night APD received information that a suspect wanted on a parole violation was in a building containing several businesses near 12th and Forest.

Officers tried to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful. Around 1:00am employees of one of businesses in the building came out and informed police they saw the man inside and he had access to weapons inside the building.

The SWAT team was called out and a remote controlled robot was sent in to try to locate the man. Police tell us just before 5:30 am SWAT entered the building with chemical agents in an attempt to arrest the man but at this hour have still not been able to coax the man out of the building.

Due to this standoff situation AACAL school is closed this morning, and police are urging everyone to avoid the area.
