Texas school finance case back in court

The Texas school finance case heads back to court Tuesday. A judge overseeing the trial is set to hear new testimony on whether more money and fewer standardized tests have adequately improved the balance for students in rich and poor areas.

Nearly a year ago, State District Judge John Dietz ruled the system Texas uses to finance public education is unconstitutional. Dietz will be deciding whether changes made last summer will alter that decision. Lawmakers increased classroom funding by more than $3 billion.

Also, the number of standardized tests students were required to take was was reduced from 15 to five to graduate.

Dietz wants evidence of how the changes affect his findings added to the court record for a Texas Supreme Court review when his ruling is appealed.
