Water Boil Notice for Perryton

Perryton, Texas - The City of Perryton is under a water boil notice.

While making repairs to a ruptured water main line on South Jefferson over night, water pressures fell below the minimum standard set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, causing bacteria to possibly enter into the system during low pressure periods.

All residents are urged to boil water for at least two minutes and allow it to cool prior to use to get rid of any bacteria that may by present. Water can be used for showering and clothes washing without boiling.

City officials will advise residents when the notice is lifted.

Perryton ISD campuses are also closed Wednesday as a result. The water boil notice will remain in effect until further notice, which city officials say may continue for a few days.

"We certainly apologize for this significant inconvenience to our 9,000 citizens. I assure you that the city staff did everything possible to avoid this incident. Fifteen different city employees and ten contract employees, worked nearly 12 straight hours in attempting to avoid this situation. We thank you for you patience and understanding as we continue to work hard in bringing the water distribution system back to normal," David Landis, City Manager said.

Testing will continue on the city's water system throughout the day.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
