AMARILLO, TX - The American Red Cross of the Texas Panhandle is now offering scholarships to teens in Amarillo and Canyon to learn about starting a babysitting business.
The Red Cross has offered the course for a while, but thanks to grant funding from the United Way, the cost of the course has gone down from $85 to $65, and they have about 50 scholarships to offer to those who can't afford the fee.
The course is a four hour experience where teens from 11 to 15 year old can learn how to probably handle newborns, how to re-act in emergency situations, and more.
The Red Cross says taking the course is a good idea for young people looking to start making some cash through babysitting. "It's a really good course for them to take to kind of learn some of those basic safety skills, how to spot potential dangers, how to communicate with parents, and even a little about just the whole business aspect of being a baby sitter," Red Cross Spokesperson Steve Pair said.
The next course will be February 1 and there are still plenty of spots open and plenty of scholarships available. You get more info on the Red Cross website.
